Did you know that Sandalwood is a hemiparasitic tree, meaning it grows off other trees⁉️ It derives some of its nutrients off its host.
Sandalwood is the second most expensive wood in the world and has been long sought after for centuries.

While recently travelling for work at the NT border, one of our surveyors came across a sandalwood plantation among other crops, that are all sustained by irrigation from Ord River irrigation scheme in the region.

The scheme initially failed because of difficulties growing crops and attack from pests. Today the irrigated areas successfully produce a variety of fruits and vegetables, with the most recent crop being sandalwood.

See our photos below of the Sandalwood plantations, corn crops and unique topography of the region.
