Construction work has started at Keep River Road. Upgrades to help improve future access and road safety.

On this project, Manu was sent over to help assist with the road set out, while on the job he witnessed the process of lime soil stabilization method. The principle process of this stabilization method is to mix the unsuitable clay with lime, over time this results in the material on-site becoming suitable for use in road construction as it will improve load-bearing capacity and long term strength.

If you look at the photos below, you can see an image of the soil that swells during the wet season and creates holes and cracks when drying. To avoid that the constructors are mixing the soil with lime to make a base for a solid road foundation.
